Providing Urgent Eye Care Services in Calgary

caucasian family pyramidEye emergencies can happen suddenly, and when they do, timely care is essential. At Woodbine Optometry, we offer urgent eye care services for patients experiencing sudden changes in vision, eye pain, trauma, or signs of infection. If you’re unsure whether your symptoms require immediate attention, contact us right away, and our team will guide you on the next steps.

When to Seek Urgent Eye Care

We are always here to help if you experience an eye emergency. At Woodbine Optometry, we provide urgent care for a variety of eye conditions, including infections, injuries, and sudden changes in vision. Our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment allows us to examine the surface of the eye and digitally scan inside the eye to detect signs of infection, inflammation, or structural damage such as a retinal detachment.

We can accommodate many types of eye emergencies, including:

  • Symptoms of eye infection (redness, discharge, light sensitivity)
  • Foreign materials stuck in the eyes
  • Eye trauma or injury
  • Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
  • Flashes of light in the vision
  • “Floaters” in the vision
  • Red, painful, or swollen eyes
  • Dislodged contact lenses
  • Sudden onset of double vision

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, contact our office right away. In many cases, we can arrange a same-day appointment to ensure your eyes get the care they need when it matters most. If further surgical intervention is required, we will promptly refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist to ensure your eye health is managed by the right eye care professional in a timely fashion.

Red, Pink or Burning & Sore Eyes?

Not all cases of “pink eye” are the same—and some may be signs of more serious eye conditions that require prompt treatment. While mild cases may be caused by allergies or viral infections, others may result from more severe conditions such as microbial keratitis (a corneal infection) or iritis (inflammation inside the eye).

If you are experiencing a new onset of any of the following symptoms:

  • Red or pink eyes
  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye soreness or discomfort
  • Blurred vision
  • Tearing or discharge

…it’s important to see your optometrist right away. These symptoms can overlap between minor irritations and sight-threatening conditions, and only a thorough eye exam can determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
