Modern Tools for Proactive, Personalized Eye Health

At Woodbine Optometry we’re committed to protecting your vision with the most advanced diagnostic technology available. By investing in cutting-edge tools, we can detect eye diseases in their earliest stages—often before you experience any symptoms. Early detection means earlier intervention, more treatment options, and better outcomes for your long-term eye health.

Our experienced optometrists use a combination of high-tech instruments and personalized assessments to monitor your vision and eye health over time. Whether you’re managing a known condition or simply maintaining routine care, you can trust that your eyes are in expert hands. Below are some of the different types of equipment we regularly use during eye exams:

CIRRUS 5000

CIRRUS 5000

Includes the latest in retina and glaucoma diagnostics, such as OCT angiography and en face imaging
AFC-330 Fundus Camera

AFC-330 Fundus Camera

This is used to evaluate the health of the back of your eye, the retina. The digital camera snaps a high-resolution digital picture of your retina. This picture clearly shows the health of your eyes and is used as a baseline to track any changes in your eyes in future eye examinations.
iCare Tonometer

iCare Tonometer

This accurate painless puffless tonometer measures the eye's intra-ocular pressure (IOP).
Humphrey HFA II-i Series

Humphrey HFA II-i Series

This is used to assist with Glaucoma detection. It's designed for the examination, analysis and documentation of the field of sight, especially the light difference sensitivity and other functions of the human eye.

Digital Retinal Imaging

At Woodbine Optometry, we use state-of-the-art digital retinal imaging to assess and monitor your eye health. Many serious eye conditions, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. Detecting these conditions early is key to preventing vision loss, and digital imaging plays a vital role in that process.

This advanced technology captures high-resolution images of your retina, optic nerve, and surrounding structures. These images serve as a baseline and permanent record, allowing your optometrist to detect even subtle changes over time during routine eye exams.

The advantages of digital imaging include:

  • Quick, safe, non-invasive and painless
  • Provides detailed images of your retina and sub-surface of your eyes
  • Allows real-time assessment of eye tissue structure and health
  • Uses eye-safe light and near-infra-red light
  • No preparation required before your exam

Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an advanced imaging technique that uses eye-safe near-infrared light to capture near microscopic two- and three-dimensional images of your optic nerve and macula. It is essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy—even before symptoms appear, helping to protect your vision long-term.

At Woodbine Optometry we use the Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT. This diagnostic equipment is manufactured by Zeiss who is the leader in OCT technology.

Digital Retinal Photography

Digital retinal photography captures a high-resolution image of the inside of your eye, including the retina and optic nerve. This non-invasive technology allows your optometrist to thoroughly assess the health of your eyes and detect signs of eye disease that may not be visible through standard examination methods. These images serve as a valuable baseline and help us monitor for changes over time, aiding in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as retinal disease, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and hypertension-related eye changes.

Tonometry

Tonometry is the procedure used perform to determine the intraocular pressure (IOP), the fluid pressure inside the eye. It is an important measurement used to detect vision threatening diseases such as glaucoma.

The doctors at Woodbine Optometry use the new iCare tonometer, which requires no uncomfortable drops or air puffs, to look for abnormal eye pressures during your comprehensive eye exam.

Visual Field Testing

A visual field test is a subjective way to measure the sensitivity of your peripheral or ‘side’ vision. It is an essential component for diagnosing and managing glaucoma and can also assist in monitoring the progression of neurological injury caused by stroke, tumors, etc affecting the visual pathways.

At Woodbine Optometry we use the Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer which is the gold standard in visual field analysis.
