Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.
Our optometrist takes the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet our doctors:
Dr. Gupta graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2005. She has been providing quality eye care in the Calgary area for more than 10 years and now has her own community eye care practice, Woodbine Optometry, which has been open since April 2015. She also works part time at the Rockyview General Hospital's Eye Clinic where she provides low vision services. Before moving to Calgary in 2007, she practiced at the University of Waterloo as a clinical supervisor for students in their third and fourth years of optometry. She supervised students in the primary care, contact lens, external geriatrics and community clinics.
Dr. Gupta enjoys practicing full scope, community based optometry. She believes in listening to patients in order to understand and solve their visual problems. She is able to easily relate with children and is also experienced in managing complex eye disease in the elderly. She also enjoys sharing information about how the visual system functions. (Go ahead and ask her a question!) Dr. Gupta is looking forward to being a part of the growth and development of families in her community.
Dr. Gupta spends her spare time taking fine arts courses at the Alberta College of Art and Design where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in fine arts. She and her husband enjoy spending time together hiking and snowshoeing in the Rocky Mountains.
Dr. Jillian Wishart is a native of Calgary. She completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Calgary, graduating with first class honours in 2011. She graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Sciences in 2015, where she was honoured with several awards for academic excellence, including the College of Optometrists of Ontario General Proficiency Award and the Abbott Medical Optics General Proficiency Award First Prize.
Dr. Wishart’s clinical training included an ocular disease externship in Atlanta, GA, where she learned from experts in glaucoma, cataracts, anterior segment, and retinal disease. She also participated in an optometric service trip to Casma, Peru in 2013, with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.
Following her graduation, Dr. Wishart practiced in Calgary for two years, and she joined Woodbine Optometry in 2017. She is passionate about providing thorough, quality eye health care, and works to ensure that her patients understand every aspect of their eye exam.
Dr. Wishart enjoys hiking, skiing, reading her never-ending stack of books, and spending time with friends, family, and her fiancé, Patrick. She is thrilled to be practicing at Woodbine Optometry, and is looking forward to caring for the people of Woodbine and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Anh Bui graduated from the University of Calgary with two Bachelor of Science degrees majoring in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology as well as Zoology. While pursuing her undergraduate degrees, she went on several missionary trips with the Medical Aid for Vietnam Organization, where she discovered her passion for optometry. Thereupon, she continued her academic endeavours and graduated with Honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science.
As part of her ocular disease externship in Pinellas Park, Florida, Dr. Bui has worked alongside anterior segment and retinal ophthalmologists. She also gained valuable vision therapy experience and provided thorough patient care while working with local developmental optometrists in Calgary and Waterloo.
Dr. Bui enjoys practicing full scope optometry and finds excitement in working at Woodbine Optometry. With a desire to give back to the community, she hopes to continue volunteering on mission trips in order to offer exceptional eye care to developing countries in the near future.
